Synonyms Antonyms and Hyponyms

Synonym

A synonym is a word that means exactly the same as, or very nearly the same as, another word in the same language. For example, "close" is a synonym of "shut".

Here are some examples of synonyms:

closes                  hut 

blow up               explode
blow up               inflate 
shallow                superficial
eager                    earnest                keen
spontaneous        impromptu         unplanned




Antonym
An antonym is a word that means the opposite of another word. For example "bad" is an antonym of "good".
 Here are some  examples:

good                                  bad
small                                 big
easy                                   hard
                                          difficult

soft                                    hard
male                                  female
up                                      down

go                                      come




Hyponym

Is the state or phenomenon that shows  the relationship  between more general term, ( lexical representation) and the more specific instances for it. In linguistics, a specific term used to designate a member of a class. For instance, oak is a hyponym of tree, and dog is a hyponym of animal.

The lexical representation of:
red, yellow, green, blue, purple, black is ( color ).
Thus we can say that: " red " is  a hyponym of " color " and so on.


Examples:

clarinet, guitar, piano, trumpet, violin, are hyponyms because they are " musical instruments " but there is not a single word meaning  " musical instrument " that has these  words as its hyponyms .
